What do I do if court-ordered child support is not being paid to me?

A child support enforcement case should be filed. While county or state agencies (such as the Texas State Attorney General) may assist with collecting child support, sometimes hiring a private attorney assists in reaching a conclusion sooner and with less aggravation. However, hiring a private attorney requires an up front payment while the agencies normally do not charge a significant fee. If successful, the party that failed to pay the child support may be ordered to reimburse some or all of the fees paid to bring the collection suit, which lowers the cost in the long run. A person not receiving child support can try to utilize the county/state agencies and a private attorney to try and obtain some help for little cost but using the private attorney to speed up the process.
